Overview

The journey

The classic circuit, and still the most varied trail in Nepal — rice terraces and rhododendron give way to pine, then to the arid, Tibetan-feeling upper valleys, before the long dawn climb to the Thorong La at 5,416 m and the drop into Mustang.

Frequently asked

Parts of the valley floor now carry a road, so we route you onto the NATT walking trails wherever they exist — you barely see it.

Long rather than technical. It is a five-to-six hour climb from Phedi starting around 4am, on a clear path, with the altitude doing most of the work.
